ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's tennis
teams return to action on Tuesday when they hit the road to
Augusta. First serves from the Newman Tennis Center is scheduled
for 11 a.m.
The Trojans - Men
The men's tennis team is coming into Tuesday's nonconference match
with an overall record of 6-2. Doubles duo Nicolas Ascarrunz and
Paul Michael Calhoun are a perfect 3-0 when paired together.
Calhoun has an overall doubles record of 6-2 this season.
In singles action, seniors Inaki Iriberri and Mateo Rivas are 6-2 overall for the Black and Gold.
The Trojans - Women
On the women's side, the No. 10 regionally ranked Trojans are 7-4
overall breaking a three match slide with today's win over
Conference Carolinas opponent Converse.
Junior Rebecca Bruning is 8-2 overall in singles play highlighted by a straight set victory over the No. 24 player in the country on Saturday. For Brunings efforts last week, she was named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office earlier today. Trojan teammates, Alexandra Ebner and Jennifer Holcombe have also posted seven singles wins so far this season.
In doubles action, Trojan tandem No. 22 Ivey Welborn and Bruning (9-2) are playing solid at No. 1 despite the setback Saturday against the No. 12 doubles pairing in the nation.
The Jaguars - Men
The Jaguars enter Tuesday's matchup as the No. 44 team in the
nation and the No. 9 team in the southeast region. Augusta has
posted an overall record of 8-2 this season, riding a three match
win streak.
During the 2014-15 season, the Jaguars were ranked as high as
No. 23 making the NCAA Southeast Regionals, as an eighth seed,
eventually losing in the second round to Armstrong Atlantic.
The Jaguars- Women
The women's tennis team is currently ranked No. 36 in the country
with a No. 6 regional ranking. The Jaguars come into Tuesday's
match with a 9-3 overall record losing their last two outings.
Augusta finished the 2014-15 season 15-7 overall and 8-5 in Peach Belt play. The Jaguars were ranked as high as No. 28 losing in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Regionals to Georgia College.
The Series
Anderson and Augusta did not play last season due to inclement
weather.
The last time Anderson men's tennis beat Augusta was during the 2008-09 season defeating the Jaguars 6-3.
Augusta women's tennis has defeated the Black and Gold the past six times the two team have met.
