AUSGUSTA, GA. - After getting on the board by winning one doubles match, Anderson University women's tennis could not quite muster enough singles wins to overtake No. 36 Augusta, dropping a 6-3 decision to the Jaguars in nonconference action on Tuesday at the Newman Tennis Center.

With the setback, the Trojans fall to 7-5 overall, while No. 36 Augusta improves to 9-3 on the season.

In the doubles round, Augusta's duo of Brooke Durden and Maria C. Pimentel battled No. 22 Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning to an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 spot. Veteran tandem Karen Faria and Alexandra Ebner conquered Monica Gonzalez and Amelia Pinoargote, 9-7 at the No. 2 position, while Jennifer Holcombe and Abigail Gregory fell 8-2 at the No. 3 slot.

In the singles round, Anderson's Karen Faira defeated Brooke Durden in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Playing No.3 singles, Bruning continued her solid play by winning in straight sets over Maria C. Pimentel, 6-4, 6-3, improving her overall singles record to 9-2. Senior Nikkola Wichenko took her match into three-sets, but came up just shy falling 2-6, 6-1, 11-13 at the No. 6 spot.
