ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking to bounce back following a pair of disappointing losses to USC Aiken on Wednesday, Anderson University men's and women's tennis returns to the courts for their South Atlantic Conference openers this weekend. The Trojans will face off with Mars Hill on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Brevard on Sunday at noon with both matches taking place at the AU Tennis Complex.
The Trojans - Men
The men's tennis team is coming into weekend matches with an
overall record of 2-1. Doubles pairings Nicolas Ascarrunz and Paul
Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberri and Ramiro Urreta are a perfect
2-0 on the young season while partners Aljaz Cajzek and Mateo Rivas
are 1-1.
In singles, Ascarrunz is the only Trojan to remain undefeated with Urreta, Calhoun, Iriberri, and Rivas holding a 2-1 overall record.
The Trojans- Women
On the women's side, the Trojans are 3-1 overall suffering their
first setback of the year on Wednesday versus USC Aiken. Doubles
partners Rebecca Bruning and Ivey Welborn are 4-0 on the season
while holding a 17-5 all-time record as a pairing.
In the singles portion, veterans Alexandra Ebner and Karen Faria are 3-1 along with sophomore Trojan Welborn and junior Bruning. Freshman Jennifer Holcombe and Sophomore Natalia San Jose are sporting a 2-1 overall record entering the weekend contests.
The Lions - Men
Mars Hill men's tennis finished the 2014-15 season with an overall
record of 7-9 and 3-8 in conference play. The Lions (3-4, 0-1 SAC)
lost their opening conference match at home against pre-season
fifth seeded Newberry College, 9-0.
The Lions- Women
The women's tennis team posted a (4-12, 1-10 SAC) record a year
ago. Mars Hill is currently 3-4 on the season, losing its opening
conference match to fifth seeded pre-season pick Newberry College,
9-0.
The Tornados- Men
Brevard's men's tennis heads into Sunday's match winless on the
season while being beaten 9-0, by Newberry to open its conference
season.
The Tornados- Women
The women's tennis team played their opening conference match one
week ago, losing 9-0 to Newberry. Brevard finished (1-16, 0-11 SAC)
last season and will be looking win its first conference match in
over a year.
