Women’s Tennis Hosts Converse on Wednesday

ANDERSON, S.C. -The Anderson University women's tennis team returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Conference Carolina member Converse at the AU Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.

The Trojans
After capturing an 8-1 victory over South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill on Saturday, Anderson is 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

In the Black and Gold's last match against the Lions, Anderson swept the doubles round and captured five singles matches to seal the win. Upperclassmen Rebecca Bruning, Karen Faria, and Alexandra Ebner are each 4-1 in the singles with their lone loss being against Peach Belt opponent USC Aiken.

In doubles this season, Anderson's No. 1 team of Ivey Welborn and Bruning are 5-0 for the year after being named to the annual Preseason All-SAC First Team list. The duo is coming off an 8-3 win over Mars Hill's tandem of Jasha Geerdink and Lucy McLaurin.

The Valkyries
Converse enters Wednesday with a 3-2 overall record and a three-match winning streak. Prior to their last three contests, the Valkyries lost two straight matches to SAC member Mars Hill (7-2) and SIAC member Benedict (6-3).

The Valkyries have won their last three contests with a combined point total of 24-1, by blanking both Columbia and Johnson C Smith while giving up one point to Winston-Salem State.

The Series
The 2013 match between Anderson and Converse marked the first meeting since the Trojans joined the SAC prior to the 2011 season. The Black and Gold have not given up a point to Converse, blanking the Valkyries 9-0 each of the last three meetings.
