Women’s Tennis Ranked No. 48 in ITA National Rankings, Welborn and Bruning Honored

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2015-16 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division II Men's and Women's National and Regional rankings for the upcoming spring seasons and Anderson University women's tennis landed No. 48 in the national rankings and No. 9 in the Southeast Region rankings, announced by the ITA on Tuesday.

In addition to the team ranking, Anderson's Ivey Welborn was ranked 18th in the Southeast Region singles rankings and joined doubles partner Rebecca Bruning in the No. 3 slot in the region's doubles rankings and No. 22 in the national doubles rankings.

The women's team moved up a single spot from last season's final rankings after closing the 2015 spring season with a 15-6 record, marking the most wins by the program in the South Atlantic Conference era. The Trojans advanced to the semifinals of the SAC Championship before they saw their season cut down by eventual tournament-champion, Wingate.

Welborn, a sophomore, makes her first appearance in the region's singles rankings after concluding the 2015 season with a 7-7 record while playing at the No. 1 position throughout the campaign. At the conclusion of the regular season, Welborn was named to the All-SAC First Team Doubles list and the All-SAC Second Team singles squad. Within the top-20 singles players in the Southeast Region, the Anderson, S.C. native is one of six players from the SAC.

In doubles, Welborn and Bruning teamed up to post a 13-5 record, as all 18 matches were at the No. 1 spot. The duo finished the year with a 7-3 record against SAC opponents, headlined by an 8-6 victory over Limestone's Alexandra Boulbin and Marian Pinate who was ranked fourth in this edition of the ranking. Bruning, an Academic All-American Second Team honoree, landed on the All-SAC First Team singles list at the conclusion of last year.

The Trojans return to the court in early February with the entire schedule slated to be announced in the near future.
