Men’s And Women’s Tennis Travel To Columbus State on Saturday


ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking to continue the momentum from a pair of home wins versus Conference Carolinas opponent Belmont Abbey on Thursday, Anderson University men's and women's tennis travel Peach Belt Conference powerhouse Columbus State on Saturday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.

The Trojans - Men
The men's tennis team is coming into Saturday's match with an overall record of 7-3. The Trojans defeated CC foe Belmont Abbey on Thursday, 7-2.

In doubles play, seniors Paul Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberri hold a 7-3 overall record. Junior Nicolas Ascarrunz has posted a 3-1 overall record while battling an injury earlier this season.

In singles play, Iriberri is 7-3 while Mateo Rivas and Juan Carracedo have posted six and five wins, respectively.

The Trojans- Women
On the women's side, the Trojans are 8-5 overall with their past two wins being 9-0 triumphs.

Doubles partners No. 22 Rebecca Bruning and Ivey Welborn are 10-3 on the season while holding a 23-8 all-time record as a pairing. Junior Alexandra Ebner has played solid during the 2015-16 season posting a 10-3 doubles record, as well.

In the singles portion, Bruning holds a 10-2 overall record at the No. 2 spot while Ebner and freshman Jennifer Holcombe continue to play well posting eight wins each for the Black and Gold. Veteran Karen Faria is 7-3 overall despite battling a nagging wrist injury.

The Cougars
No. 11 Columbus State enters Saturday's match with an 8-3 overall record while riding an emotional high after defeating the No. 9 team in the country, Valdosta State, on Wednesday.

The Cougars finished the 2014-15 season 18-6 making the NCAA tournament for the eighth straight year.

The Lady Cougars
Columbus State women's tennis holds a 10-3 overall record and are ranked No. 8 nationally. The Lady Cougars defeated No. 15 Valdosta State on Wednesday.

Columbus State boasted a 23-4 overall record last season, amassing its highest win total since 2012. The Lady Cougars have also made the NCAA Quarterfinals the past two seasons.
