ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's tennis team was edged out, 5-4, by Carson-Newman Friday afternoon at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the loss, the Trojans fall to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the SAC, while the Eagles improve to 9-3 and 3-3 in conference play.

Anderson jumped out to a 2-1 lead following the doubles round, as the duo of Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning won 8-1 over Jill Corsato and Patricia Guerreiro at the No. 1 spot. Playing in the No 2 slot, Alexandra Ebner and Jennifer Holcombe gave a valiant effort falling 8-5 to Ali Harris/Brooke Sanderson. Trojan tandem Abigail Gregory and Natalia San Jose gave the Black and Gold point number two with a win over Gabrielle Wood and Mallory Jackson at the No. 3 position.

Bruning picked up her 14th singles victory of the season while Ebner continues her solid play winning over Brooke Sanderson, 6-4, 7-6.

Anderson continues conference action when it travels to preseason favorite No. 39 Wingate on Wednesday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the WU Tennis Facility.
