Mollenhauer Earns Prestigious South Atlantic Conference Presidents Award

Rock Hill, S.C. - Anderson University women's basketball standout Alexy Mollenhauer continues to garner post-season accolades, earning the prestigious SAC Presidents Award Monday morning, becoming the first student-athlete from AU to earn the honor. The Presidents Award is the highest individual honor presented annually by the South Atlantic Conference, going to the top overall scholar-athlete in the league.

"We could not be more excited and more proud of all Alexy has accomplished as a Trojan over the last four years," said Anderson Vice President for Athletics Bert Epting, Jr. "She has exemplified what it means to be a Trojan both on the court and in the classroom through her commitment to excellence, her hard work and her passion for living out her Christian faith in leading and serving others. She has been instrumental in building a winning culture at Anderson and we are so proud and thankful to call her our own. We all want to congratulate Alexy and what a historic accomplishment for Anderson University Athletics!"

The SAC Presidents Award is voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives. Potential recipients must exemplify excellence in athletics, academics and community service. The winner must have been honored as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year during the year in one of the league's 20 sponsored sports.

"There really are no words to express how much Lexy has meant to this program," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "Everyone can read about the numbers, records, and awards, but it goes so much deeper than that. Lexy has always been much more than a basketball player to us and I think this award captures some of that sentiment. Lexy's faith in her Lord and Savior drives her to be the best she can be. She is always the first to volunteer to work in her community and with her church, giving back with all of her heart. She just graduated with degree this May with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Lexy has done an excellent job representing our conference and Anderson University on and off the court."

One of the most decorated student-athletes in SAC history, Mollenhauer has earned multiple All-SAC and All-Region honors in her career, including being named as a 12-time SAC Player of the Week honoree, National Player of the Week, 2017 SAC Freshman of the Year, 2019 and 2020 SAC and Region Player of the Year, 2019 SAC Tournament MVP, 2020 SAC All-Tournament, 2019 and 2020 All-American and was the 2019 SAC Female Athlete of the Year. The native of Lindale, Texas was also named to the 2019 and 2020 first team Academic All-America team, while garnering the 2020 SAC Elite 20 Award and back-to-back SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards and SAC Female Athlete of the Year Awards in 2019 and 2020.

Mollenhauer graduated last month with a 4.0 GPA, majoring in English|Secondary English Education (9-12). She was a member of the Dean's List and a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor each year.

"I am so proud of all of her accomplishments and how she makes everyone around her want to be the best version of themselves, including me," emphasized Barbaree. "She has made me a better coach, a better man, but even more so, a better Christian."

On the court, Mollenhauer helped lead the Trojans to two regular season SAC titles, a SAC Tournament Championship title and four NCAA appearances. As a four-year member of the Black and Gold, Mollenhauer helped lead the Trojans to a stellar 97-26 overall record and a 70-14 SAC slate. Anderson earned the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional hosting rights, while finishing the year with an impressive 30-3 overall record and an unblemished 20-0 conference mark, including a program record 28-game win streak.

The six-foot guard finished her illustrious career as the first Anderson player to reach at least 1000-points (1,949) and 1000-rebounds (1, 017) and the third player in the SAC record books to accomplish the feat. Her name can be found on nearly every top-10 category on the AU all-time records list. In 2020 she ranked third in the nation in defensive rebounds per game, fourth in total minutes played, fifth in total rebounds and seventh in double-doubles.

Mollenhauer has served in the community with Hope Kids at Hope Fellowship Church for the last four years. She volunteered at two schools, Calhoun Academy of the Arts and Nevitt Forest Elementary, reading to the elementary students. She has also participated in Martin Luther King Jr. Day service projects for the past two years and has helped with numerous girls basketball summer camps hosted at Anderson.

"Lexy, thank you for being a part of all our lives the last four years, good luck next season overseas, and congratulations on this award," added Barbaree.
