Play4Kay Initiative is set for Saturday versus Tusculum

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's basketball teams are partnering with several hundred other schools around the country to participate in the WBCA's 2019 Play 4Kay initiative Saturday, Feb. 15th when the Trojans play host to Tusculum at 2 p.m./4p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.

Pink-Out the Abney Center by wearing your pink! Receive a T-shirt for a $3.00 donation, or greater.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) promotes Breast Cancer Awareness with the Play 4Kay initiative which honors Coach Kay Yow, from North Carolina State, who lost her life to breast cancer. AU Athletics will circulate literature and are asking everyone to wear pink. In addition, members of the Trojan women's basketball team will wear pink uniforms to commemorate the occasion.

The lobby of the Abney Center will feature raffle items that include a Walmart gift card, gift cards from various restaurants and gas cards. Raffle tickets will be available for a dollar each. A silent auction will also be set up and include Nike Gear, Golf Set, Braves Package, Sound Bar and Roku TV, 6th Generation IPAD with pen, and gift cards from downtown businesses. Other student-athletes and volunteers will be doing their part by accepting donations from fans throughout the doubleheader.

There will also be a Survivor's Walk during the half-time of the women's game at approximately 2:30 p.m.

If cancer has touched your life in any way, as someone who has been diagnosed, or as someone who is undergoing treatment, or as someone who has survived, or if you have a family member that you would like to represent, you are invited to join others for the walk to show support and honor. Please RSVP by email to Becky Farmer bfarmer@andersonuniversity.edu  and let her know your t-shirt size. We look forward to seeing you on February 15th!

Every South Atlantic Conference women's basketball program has joined together in the fight against cancer by taking part in the initiative. The mission of the initiative, which began in 2007 and has raised more than $2 million, is to develop a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Each SAC women's basketball team has designated a game to support the Play 4Kay initiative. Fans are encouraged to attend these games and contribute to the fund, which furthers cancer research.

Support for the AU Play 4Kay initiative is also being provided by Anderson Federal Credit Union, Cox Family Dentistry, Mac's Dry Cleaners, Propp Drugs, Walmart, Cobbs Glen's, Bleckley Inn, Southern Oaks Golf Club, Corner Bagel, Canela's, The Club at Brookstone, Target, Indigo Custom Framing & Artisan Market, Men's Warehouse, Apple Dumpling Antiques, Anderson University SGA, Walmart, Simply Country Chic, Skins, Ronnie J. Treadwell, Walter and Christy Clarey, Nancy and Wayne Simpson, Tom and Sherrill Hall and Scott and Deb Taylor, Billy D'Andrea, Roy Jeffcoat and McIntosh, Sherard, & Sullivan.

Play4Kay is named after legendary coach Kay Yow, who fought a courageous and very public battle against breast cancer to build a platform dedicated to improving and extending the lives of cancer patients. After three recurrences of the disease, Coach Yow passed away on January 24, 2009.
