Trojans Open 2019-20 Slate with Solid Win Over Georgia College; 86-65

Anderson, S.C – Paced by senior Alexy Mollenhauer's double-double, No. 13 Anderson University women's basketball team claimed its first victory of the regular season with a convincing 86-65 victory over Peach Belt Conference member Georgia College on Friday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

The Trojans earned their 4th straight victory over the Bobcats, moving to 1-0 on the season. Georgia College drops to 0-1, while looking to even the record tomorrow against Wingate, as play continue in the Conference Challenge.

Mollenhauer led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting and all rebounders with 11 boards. Senior Madison Baggett chipped in 10 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out six assists.

The Black and Gold's roster each played at least seven minutes with 13-of-14 scoring at least one point for the Trojans.

As a team, Anderson closed the game shooting 57.9 percent (33-for-57) from the field, headlined by a 45.5 percent (10-for-22) mark from beyond the 3-point line. Seven different Trojans drained at least one three-point basket.

"It was good to finally play a game and start a new journey, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "I thought we did ok in spurts, but I would like to see us play a little more consistent. But definitely excited to get that first win. Now we have to turn our attention to getting ready to play another great team tomorrow."

The Trojans held the Bobcats to 17 points or less each quarter with the Black and Gold reeling off 28 points in the third frame. Anderson shot 78.6 percent from the floor and 75 percent from behind the arc to push its lead to 24 points with one quarter to play.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it faces PBC foe Clayton State to wrap-up the Conference Challenge. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
