Trojans Use Solid Team Effort to Blow Past Wolves; 86-45

Anderson, S.C. – No. 19 Anderson University women's basketball used a solid team effort to blow past South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry to win its 30th regular season home game in a row on Wednesday in the friendly confines of the Abney Athletic Center.

With the win, the Black and Gold improve to 18-3 overall and 13-2 in SAC play, while the Wolves slide to 11-9 and 8-7 overall in conference action.

Senior Alexy Mollenhauer scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, recording her 13th double-double of the season. Senior Madison Baggett netted 11 points while chasing down eight rebounds. Junior Taylor Hair reached double figures, scoring 10 points and seven boards. Four of Hair's seven rebounds were came on the offensive glass. Freshman Jalyn Spurlin came off the bench to score nine points and grab five rebounds.

Newberry's reserve Talia Roberts scored a team-high 15 points, as no other player reached double-digit scoring.

Anderson outscored Newberry 22-11 in the opening frame and never looked back.

The Trojans exploded for 27 points, in the second period, on 10-15 shooting (66.7%), including 5-of-8 (62.5%) from behind the arc. Mollenhauer scored nine points, while Baggett and junior Alexis Tate each chipped in eight points to lead the charge.

The 41-point win avenges a gut-wrenching loss at Newberry earlier in the season. The Wolves defeated the Trojans 58-56 to hand Anderson its first SAC loss of the year.

"Really proud of how well we started the game and then how we kept that energy and pressure up all the way through till the end of the game," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree.

"This is the time to start playing our best basketball and I couldn't be more proud of how hard the ladies have been working," added Barbaree.

Anderson begins a two game road swing when it travels to SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
