Trojans open 2020 slate with South Atlantic Conference road win at Tusculum; 56-47

Greeneville, Tenn. – Paced by senior Alexy Mollenhauer's sixth double-double of the season, No.19 Anderson women's basketball team picked up a South Atlantic Conference road win at Tusculum, 56-47, on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in SAC play, while the Pioneers slide to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference action.

Mollenhauer equaled her career best scoring 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-10 from behind the three-point line. The native of Lindale, Texas also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Madison Baggett chipped in 12 points, draining 4-of-8 from behind the three-point arc. Baggett also recorded five rebounds and five assists on the afternoon. Junior Alexis Tate tied her career best with 10 rebounds for the Black and Gold.

Tusculum's lone double-digit scorer was guard Sydney Wilson. Wilson dropped in 16 points, while also recording two assists, two steal and a blocked shot for the Pioneers.

Anderson held Tusculum to 27.5 percent shooting (19-69) from the floor, including a dismal 16.7 percent (4-24) from behind the three-point line.

"This was a typical SAC game where both teams were battling from start to finish," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "It was going to come down to getting stops on defense and I feel like we did a great job of doing that today."

"Offensively, even though we had too many turnovers, a lot of them were dead ball turnovers which didn't lead to layups the other way," explained Barbaree. "All in all a great way to start the New Year!"

Anderson returns home to host SAC foe Wingate on Wednesday. Tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. in the friendly confines of the Abney Athletic Center.
