Trojans Cruise Past Flying Fleet; 76-42

ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by senior Alexy Mollenhauer's fifth double-double of the season, No.15 Anderson women's basketball team cruised to a, 76-42, victory over nonconference foe Erskine on Monday evening at the Galloway Center..

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 9-2 overall, while the Flying Fleet slide fall to 1-9 on the season.

Mollenhauer scored a game-high 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting, including 5-of-9 from behind the three-point line. The native of Lindale, Texas also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Jalyn Spurlin netted a career-high 12 points in 15 minutes of action.

Erskine's lone double-digit scorer was guard Osha Makerson. Makerson dropped in 11 points, highlighted by draining 3-of-4 three-point baskets for the Flying Fleet.

The Trojans scored a season high 29 points in a period during the opening frame to lead Erskine 29-18. Over the next three periods the Black and Gold did allow over 10 points in a quarter.

Anderson played all 14 members with 11-of-14 playing at least 10 minutes or more in the contest. Spurlin made 6-of-9 baskets while adding two steals, an assist and one rebound. Senior Amari Grevious logged 10 minutes, chipping in seven points and four rebounds. Grevious also was credited with two blocked shots.

Anderson held Lenoir-Rhyne to 25.0 percent shooting from the floor while forcing 18 turnovers.

"It was nice to finish out the 2019 part of the season with a win on the road, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "I thought our energy and our attention to detail was really good throughout the game. "

"Defensively we're starting to get to the right place and get consistent stops, added Barbaree. "I'm looking forward to us continuing to grow in that area." 

Anderson will not play again until Jan. 4 to enjoy the holiday break. The Trojans will travel to South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum with a tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
