Solid Play Lifts Trojans over Coker; 85-49

Anderson, S.C. – No. 16 Anderson University women's basketball team kept the momentum going winning its sixth straight contest after defeating South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker, 85-49, on Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the win, Anderson improves to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in SAC play, while the Cobras fall to 4-9 overall and 1-8 in conference action.

Seniors Alexy Mollenhauer and Madison Baggett each scored in double-digits with Mollenhauer scoring a game-high 25 points and pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. Baggett dropped in 14 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Nearly every Trojan scored at least two points with junior Taylor Hair and freshmen McKenzie Gadson, J'Mya Cutter and Essence Marshall each chipping in seven points for the Black and Gold.

Coker controlled the opening tip, scoring within the first 15 seconds of the contest to hold its only lead of the night. Anderson went on to outscore the Cobras 25-10 in the opening frame, highlighted by Baggett's buzzer beater just beyond half-court, to set the tone for the rest of the night.

Anderson used its second best shooting percentage, from the floor, for the season (52.4%) and top percentage from beyond the arc (48 %) to cruise to the 36 point victory.

The Black and Gold's defense also played solid not allowing any Cobra to reach double-digit scoring. Coker shot a dismal 29.7% from the field and 14.3% from down town.

"Tonight's win had a lot to do with how hard the players have been working on their own, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "Shots were falling because of the time spent in the gym shooting and we were really proud to see that all their work has paid off."

Anderson remains at home to host SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
