Balanced Attack Lifts Trojans over Catawba; 71-56

ANDERSON, S.C – Anderson University women's basketball closed out its regular season slate winning its 33rd straight regular season home contest while claiming its second straight South Atlantic Conference title, defeating SAC foe Catawba, 71-56, at  the Abney Athletic Center.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 23-4 overall and 18-3 in SAC play, while the Indians drop to 21-5 overall and 16-5 in conference action.

Senior Alexy Mollenhauer led a balanced attack, scoring a game-high 19 points while ripping down a game-high 16 rebounds. Senior Madison Baggett and junior Taylor Hair each netted 15 points with Baggett grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Freshman McKenzie Gadson chipped in 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc.

Catawba had two players notch double-digit scoring. Lyrik Thorne scored a team-high 14 points while Mercedes Wampler netted 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Indians.

Despite Catawba's high pressure defense, the Trojans stayed patient in their counter attack, evenly distributing the ball which led to many easy looks at the basket. The Black and Gold led for 37:40 with the largest lead of 19 coming in the fourth quarter.

"Really proud of our team tonight, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "We had a balanced team attack all game long. They made a strong run at us but I thought we did a good job of staying composed and fighting back. We will enjoy this win tonight, but we know we have a lot more to work to do."

Anderson travels to SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Saturday to wrap up regular season play. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
