Agirre Named Second Team All-American by D2CCA

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After being named to the all-region first team at the end of November, Anderson University women's soccer standout Idoia Agirre became the first Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Women's Soccer All-American in program history, as the junior landed on the second team, announced on Wednesday.

With the NCAA Division II Championships wrapping up last week, Agirre closed the year ranked sixth in the country in total goals with 22, marking the most scored by a South Atlantic Conference player since the 2008 season. The forward also ranked third nationally in goals per game (1.16) and in points per game (2.68), while ranking fifth in total points (51) and tying teammate Kenzie Van Heusen for 51st nationally in total assists (7).

The awards continue for the Legazpi, Spain native, as she was named to the All-SAC First Team at the conclusion of the regular season and also landed on the NSCAA All-Southeast Region First Team earlier this month. Agirre also becomes the first Trojan in program history to earn All-American honors, after being the first AU player to earn NSCAA All-Region honors, joining defender Faith Johannes with the honor. In addition, Agirre was also the first Trojan to earn NSCAA National Player of the Week honors, which she claimed on Sept. 8.

Agirre led Anderson to a program-record 14 victories on the year, including eight inside the SAC. The Trojans advanced into the SAC Championship semifinals for just the second time ever after advancing on penalty kicks in the opening round over Lenoir-Rhyne.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. A total of 53 student-athletes representing 29 different institutions filled out the three teams and the honorable mention squad.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
