Trojans Slotted No. 6 in the NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - Stringing together one of the best seasons in the history of the program, Anderson University women's soccer received its first NCAA Southeast Region ranking in the South Atlantic Conference era, earning the No. 6 spot in the first of three regional rankings, released by the NCAA on Wednesday.

The Trojans entered the week with a 12-2 overall record and currently sit in a tie for third in the SAC standings with a 6-2 mark. With three matches remaining in the regular season, AU looks to host a SAC Tournament match for the first time in program history, seeking a top-four finish in the final conference table.

Anderson is one of five SAC teams represented in the rankings, as Wingate and No. 24-ranked Carson-Newman hold the top-two spots, respectively. The next three spots belong to Peach Belt Conference schools in ninth-ranked Columbus State (No. 3), 12th-ranked North Georgia (No. 4) and Armstrong (No. 5), as the trio was slotted just ahead of the Black and Gold in sixth.

Belmont Abbey (No. 7) and Limestone (No. 8) represent Conference Carolinas and finished ahead of SAC tandem Lenoir-Rhyne (No. 9) and Queens (No. 10) in this week's poll.

The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through Nov. 4, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.

Following its match with Queens on Wednesday, AU returns to the Electric City on Saturday when it squares off with SAC rival Lincoln Memorial for Homecoming. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
