ROCK HILL, S.C. - Leading Anderson University women's soccer to a perfect 2-0 start, newcomer Idoia Agirre has been named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 1-7, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Agirre shined for the Trojans last week, scoring twice in a 4-0 shutout over Shorter on Thursday, followed by a four-goal performance in a 7-1 rout of Southern Wesleyan on Saturday. With her six goals to open the season, Agirre leads the conference in most offensive categories including goals, shots (18), shots on goal (16) and points (13).
The Legazpi, Spain native becomes the first Trojan to claim SAC Player of the Week honors since Lyssa Engle was tabbed Co-SAC Player of the Week on Sept. 29, 2014. Agirre also joins Engle as Trojans who have scored four goals in a match after the SAC Freshman of the Year a season ago netted four in a 4-1 victory over Mars Hill on Sept. 27, 2014.
Agirre and the rest of the Trojans return to action on Wednesday when they hit the road to Due West to take on Erskine. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
