Agirre Earns AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After a two-goal performance against Brevard and handing out an assist on a game-winning goal on Saturday at Tusculum, Anderson University women's soccer standout Idoia Agirre has been tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 21-27, announced by the conference office on Monday.

Agirre adds her second SAC Player of the Week nod of the season after earning the opening week's honor on Sept. 8. Agirre becomes the first Trojan to win the weekly conference award in the same season since AU moved to the SAC before the 2010 season.

Opening the week on Wednesday in Brevard, Agirre knocked in two second-half goals to lead the Black and Gold to a 2-0 shutout win over the Tornados. With the two goals, the Legazpi, Spain native held on to the top spot in the conference in goals scored with 12 through Anderson's first seven contests.

On Saturday, Agirre posted a match-high six shots, but more importantly, fed teammate Emily Cowan with a pass that led to a 110th-minute goal which gave the Trojans a 2-1 road victory at Tusculum. The victory mark Anderson's first over the Pioneers since the 2011 season, as AU heads into this week with the second-highest winning percentage in the conference at 7-1 (.875).

This season, Agirre has shined by leading the SAC in goals (12), assists (5), points (18), shots (45) and shots on goal (35). The forward has notched a point in seven of the team's eight matches this season.

Agirre and the rest of the Trojans look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they close a four-match road swing at Limestone. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
