Trojans Bolt to No. 5 in NSCAA Southeast Region Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a pair of victories last week and extending its winning streak to four straight triumphs, Anderson University women's soccer jolted to No. 5 in the weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of America Southeast Region Poll, announced by the NSCAA on Tuesday.

The Trojans moved up four spots from last week's ranking and achieve their highest ranking in the poll in the program's recorded history. Anderson, which tied its most wins in the SAC era on Saturday, heads into this week with a 9-1 overall record and looks to improve on its 4-1 mark in conference play on Wednesday.

The Trojan offense has shined all season long, as team ranks fourth nationally in total goals (38), total assists (30) and total points (106). Junior striker Idoia Agirre has been receiving national recognition all season long, as she ranks fifth in the country in total goals (13) and total points (31). In addition to the goals, Agirre is tied with teammates Marie Yasmine Alidou and Kenzie Van Heusen for 15th nationally in total assists with five apiece.

The Black and Gold is the second-highest ranked team in the SAC, as Wingate claimed the No. 2 spot, as the Bulldogs were ranked No. 11 in the national poll. North Georgia, which was position second in the national poll, earned the top spot, as the Nighthawks are 7-0-1 on the season.

Joining AU and Wingate in the regional poll from the SAC are: Carson-Newman (#7) and Lenoir-Rhyne (#8), as both teams went without a victory last week. The Bears are scheduled to host Anderson on Saturday in a key conference matchup.

Before its trip to Hickory, Anderson will play its first true home contest since Sept. 16 when it hosts Newberry on Wednesday. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
