CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After a scoreless first half, Anderson University women's soccer fell victim to a pair of second-half goals from Queens University of Charlotte and snapped a two-match winning streak, falling to the Royals, 2-0, Wednesday evening at the Queens Sports Complex.

With the setback, the Trojans are still winless against Queens in the all-time series and move to 12-3 for the season with a 6-3 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. The Royals claim their fifth victory for the month of October and improve to 8-5-2 on the year with a 5-2-1 conference mark.

Following the scoreless opening 45 minutes, Queens broke through with a 52nd-minute goal from forward Charlotte Ring when she collected a loose ball outside the 18-yard box and fired a shot past Anderson goalkeeper Abby Helm. For Ring, the goal was her eighth on the year and put the hosts ahead, 1-0.

In the 71st minute, the Royals set the match out of reach when Logan Vitale recorded her first goal of the season on an unassisted tally. Following the home side's goal, the Trojans fired two shots for the remainder of the match, but both shots sailed high and out of play over the crossbar.

"Individual errors cost us and it gave Queens the chance to protect a lead," Anderson head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We responded well, but they are organized and it is difficult to chase the game at their pace. We are disappointed, but certainly not defeated in spirit. There is still a lot to play for this season."

AU totaled six shots for the match, as senior Mariana Poveda and freshman Megan Foster placed a shot on goal. Defensively, Helm totaled six saves between the posts, matching her total in the victory over Catawba last Saturday.

The Trojans return to the pitch on Saturday when they host SAC rival Lincoln Memorial for Homecoming and Senior Day. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium is set for 1 p.m. with the senior presentations scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
