Women’s Soccer Hosts Emmanuel in a Nonconference Tilt on Wednesday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Seeing its five-match winning streak come to a close on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne, Anderson University women's soccer returns to its nonconference schedule on Wednesday when it welcomes Emmanuel to the Electric City. Kick-off at Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Trojans
Despite the 2-1 setback to the Bears, AU continues to have one of its best seasons in recent history, as it enters the week with a 10-2 overall record and a 5-2 mark in South Atlantic Conference action. The Trojans currently sit in a tie for third in the conference standings, joining Lenoir-Rhyne with 15 points, while sitting a game behind Carson-Newman for second place. Despite the third-place position, AU holds the second-highest overall winning percentage in the SAC behind undefeated Wingate.

Freshman Megan Foster provided Anderson's only goal against L-R, as she headed in a corner off the foot of senior Mariana Poveda. Foster now ranked fourth on the team in goals scored with three on the year, as the Trojans have out-scored their opponents 41-11 for the 2015 campaign. With the goal, it marked the first time AU has scored 40 or more goals in the SAC era.

Junior forward Idoia Agirre continues to lead the Black and Gold and the SAC in goals scored with 15, while tying for third in the SAC in assists with five. Agirre trails teammate Kenzie Van Heusen and Carson-Newman's Heida Ragney for the conference-lead in assists.

In goal, freshman goalkeeper Abby Helm ranks 62nd nationally in minutes played with over 1,053 between the posts. Helm's goals-against average of 0.94 slots her 71st in the country and second in the conference, as she is the first goalkeeper in the conference to reach the 10-win mark.

The Lions
After posting two straight victories towards the end of September, Emmanuel (2-7, 2-4 CC) comes into Wednesday's matchup on a three-match setback streak and has not scored a goal within the span. Most recently, the Lions dropped a 2-0 decision to conference foe Lees-McRae last Saturday in Franklin Springs, Ga.

Emmanuel has scored five goals this season, as senior Emma Tamblyn and junior Allison Edenfield are responsible for four of them with two goals apiece. Sophomore Stephanie Lamm has one goal and one assist to her credit, while sophomore Sierra Gomez has EC's other assist for the year.

Defensively, the Lions have allowed 31 goals for the year and 160 shots. Senior goalkeeper Breanna Grizzle has played in 720 minutes on the season, totaling 47 saves.

The Series
Anderson and Emmanuel last met on Oct. 16, 2013 when the Trojans came away with a 1-0 victory at Trojan Stadium. Then-freshman Tera Dolan provided the game-winner in the 18th minute of play for her second collegiate goal. Wednesday's matchup will be the first since the Lions became a member of Conference Carolinas.
