BREVARD, N.C. - Headlined by a pair of second-half goals from junior Idoia Agirre, Anderson University women's soccer claimed its fourth clean sheet of the season and blanked Brevard, 2-0, in South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday at the Brevard Soccer Field.

With the victory, the Trojans jump back into the win column after suffering their first setback of the season on Saturday and improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Tornados, who added their first league victory on Saturday, fall to 2-3-1 on the year and 1-2 for the SAC.

"This is a very important win for the program and one we knew would be difficult to get," Anderson head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "It's a big challenge coming to Brevard because they play well at home and are organized."

Anderson was held to lowest shot total of the season, posting 11 shots compared to Brevard's four. Marie Yasmine Alidou, who tallied the assist on Agirre's first goal, led the way with three shots, while Agirre followed with both her shots for the afternoon turning into goals. Senior Emily Cowan and freshman Kenzie Van Heusen matched Agirre's total with a pair of shots apiece.

After Brevard limited the Trojans to just four first-half shots and without a goal in the opening 45 minutes, AU needed just over a minute to find the scoreboard in the 47th minute. Alidou found Agirre in the Brevard box and netted the Black and Gold's first goal of the afternoon, while Alidou recorded her team-high fifth assist of the season.

Agirre put the match out of reach moments later in the 55th minute when she collected a pass from teammate Mariana Poveda. Agirre pushed a shot past Brevard goalkeeper Jocelyn Springer for her 12th of the season, as she claimed her fourth match with at least two goals this year.

"We spoke at halftime and asked for a response and got it very quickly," Traquair added. "We were excellent in every area for the second half and I'm proud of the girls today. It's good to know we can adapt to these different challenges on the road."

The Trojan backline held the home side to four shots for the match, as freshman goalkeeper Abby Helm earned her sixth win on the year and her second complete shutout. Helm grabbed a pair of saves in the victory, while her counterpart, Springer, tallied five saves for the day.

Anderson continues its four-match road swing on Saturday when it hits the road to Tusculum. Kick-off from Pioneer Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
