Agirre Named to D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Leading Anderson University women's soccer to a program record in victories, junior forward Idoia Agirre landed on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Regional Women's Soccer First Team, announced on Monday.

Agirre scored the most goals by a South Atlantic Conference player in seven years, tallying 22 goals which tied her for the ninth-most in conference history. The native of Legazpi, Spain closed the year leading the SAC in goals, points (51) and shots on goal (62), while ranking second in assists (7) and shots (84). For her efforts throughout the 2015 campaign, Agirre is a two-time AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week honoree, a Hero Sports D2 Gem of the Week, a SAC all-Tournament honoree and an all-conference first team selection.

The striker becomes the first Trojan to earn all-region honors in program history after leading AU to a 14-4-1 overall record and advancing to the SAC Championship semifinals for the second time ever. The Trojans were also regionally ranked by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) throughout the season, landing eighth in the final installment.

Agirre is one of four players from the SAC to land on the first team, joining Carson-Newman's Julianne Herrity, Wingate's Macy Franklin and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brianna Belsky. The quartet joins a Peach Belt-heavy first team, as the conference claimed eight of the 13 spot on the squad.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
