Men’s Golf Remains in Ninth Place after Second Round of South Atlantic Conference Championship

CHUCKEY, Tenn. – Led for the second straight day by sophomore Calahan Keever, the Anderson University men's golf team remained in ninth place following Monday's second round of the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Championship, which is being hosted by Tusculum at the Graysburg Hills Golf Club.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played on a par-72, 6,834 yard layout.

"The conditions today were tough as winds were blowing 10-15 miles per hour with gusts to 20+ mph," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "Our guys were able to improve one shot from yesterday's score. Calahan (Keever), Reece (Coleman) and Simon (Wright) played well. We just couldn't get a good enough fourth score to go with them. Still in ninth, so our goal remains the same. We'll try to get off to a quicker start, and get four good scores tomorrow and hold our position, or possibly move up."

No. 25 Queens holds an impressive 16-stroke advantage over fifth-ranked Lincoln Memorial after increasing its lead by 11 shots during Monday's second round. Newberry is alone in third place, four strokes further back, with ninth-ranked Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne sharing fourth place after the Bears jumped four spots in the standings. Fourth-ranked Carson-Newman moved up one spot into sixth place, while 47th-ranked Tusculum plummeted from a tie for third into seventh place entering Tuesday's final round. Coker slipped from sixth into eighth place, with Anderson remaining in the ninth slot.

Wingate, Catawba, UVA Wise and Mars Hill finished out the 13-team field.

The Queens tandem of Ollie Smith and Drake Wilcox – who were tied for third entering Monday's second round - each overcame a two-stroke deficit and are tied atop the leaderboard with two-day, 11-under par 133s. Limestone's Pontus Samuelsson, Tusculum's Dominic Barron Holden and LMU's Luke Harries, who led the field following Sunday's first round, are four shots off the pace and share second place.

Keever moved up five spots by firing a 2-under 70 on Monday and moved into a three-way tie for 10th place. Junior Reece Coleman posted his second straight 1-over-par 73 on Monday and shares 25th place, with freshman Simon Wright in a tie for 40th after improving by two shots over his opening round - with a 2-over 74. Sophomore Daniel Coker is tied for 55th place, with junior Parker MacDonald notching an 8-over-par 80 on Monday and is tied for 58th place.

Tuesday's final round is set to get underway at 9 a.m., with the Trojans scheduled to start at 10:10 a.m.
