Men’s Golf Moves up Five Spots; Finishes Fourth at Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Junior Reece Coleman fired a three-round, 3-under-par 213 and finished as runner-up, while sophomore Calahan Keever carded three consecutive 1-over-par 73s to capture fourth place, as the duo led the Anderson men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the LMU Kick-off Intercollegiate, on Tuesday.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament was hosted by Lincoln Memorial on a 7,136 yard, par-72, St. Johns Golf and Country Club layout.

"It was an outstanding performance today," said Anderson Associate Head Coach Denton Moore. "The guys were gritty and absolutely fantastic. We shot the low round of the day and the second-lowest round of the tournament. The conditions were windy, hard, and fast all three days. We are really proud of the effort today. It was a phenomenal comeback."

Nationally 11th-ranked North Georgia won the team title by four shots over the host and No. 3-ranked Railsplitters, with Georgia Southwestern claiming third place, just three shots in front of the Trojans. Flagler finished two shots further back in fifth, with Limestone in sixth place. Coker and Newberry finished in a tie for seventh place, while Lander and Queens were deadlocked in the ninth spot.

King and Barton finished tied 11th place, while Montevallo, Wingate and Valdosta State finished 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively. Tusculum, Erskine, Belmont Abbey, Lenoir-Rhyne, North Greenville, Emmanuel and Southern Wesleyan rounded out the 22-team field.

North Georgia's Evan Thompson (72-68-69=209) won individual medalist honors by four strokes over Coleman, with Limestone's Kristoffer Larsson finishing in third place with a three-round 215. Keever (73-73-73=219) brought home fourth place, while Lincoln Memorial's Alexei Butchart (220) and Coker's Killian Ryan (220) finished one shot further back in a tie for fifth place.

Freshman Simon Wright finished in a three-way tie for 67th, with junior Anthony Sutton claiming a share of 79th place. Junior Parker MacDonald finished in a tie for 83rd, while sophomore Daniel Coker wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 87th place.

"Reece (Coleman) was so special today," added Moore. "He had two eagles, and shot a tournament low (67) today to come back and finish as runner-up in the tournament. Minus 3 there for three rounds is just special golf. He plays that golf course so well, and we are really excited and happy for him. Calahan (Keever) is so steady. (Shooting a) 73 for three straight rounds, and a solo fourth-place finish there is just rock solid. It's just the kind of golf (Calahan) plays. Very few mistakes, and you always know what you are going to get from him. Simon (Wright), Daniel (Coker) and Parker (MacDonald) all pitched in at perfect times to help the team come back and snag fourth place in a field with 22 outstanding teams in the region. Just a really great performance from the guys, and a lot of head-to-head wins against region teams that should help us climb back towards the top-25 in the country."

Following a two-week layoff, the Trojans will get back in action at the Spring Bulldog Clash, which is scheduled to be held at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club at Pawley's Island.

• The Trojans posted the low round of the day on Tuesday.
• Coleman's 5-under-par 67 matched his low-round of the year, which came in the second-round of the season-opening Camden Collegiate in early October.
