Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Donald Ross Intercollegiate

MORGANTON, N.C. – Despite the team equaling the fourth-lowest three-round total in program history and sophomore Calahan Keever's fourth-place finish, the Anderson men's golf team slipped four spots and finished seventh, Tuesday at Lenoir-Rhyne's Donald Ross Intercollegiate.

LR hosted the two-day, 54-hole tournament at the par-70, 6,718-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club.

"It was an extremely disappointing finish today," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "After a strong start to the tournament yesterday - finishing the day in third - we completely fell apart today and dropped to seventh. Frankly, it was embarrassing. We not only miss-executed shots, but also made some poor course and game management decisions. In the midst of that, Calahan (Keever) played well individually - shooting even par for the tournament and finishing fourth. And Reece (Coleman) managed a top-16 finish. Hopefully, the team can regroup quickly, as they travel to Miami this coming weekend."

Mount Olive overcame a seven-stroke deficit during Tuesday's final round to win the team title by two shots over runner-up Belmont Abbey. Erskine jumped from a share of fifth place into third, with the host Bears falling from the top of the leaderboard into fourth place. Wingate jumped from seventh place into a fifth-place finish, while Coker finished sixth.

The Trojans finished five strokes behind Coker in seventh place and 10 shots in front of Catawba. King remained in ninth place, with Sandhills Community College jumping three spots into 10th place. Glenville State remained 11th, while Lenoir-Rhyne (B) claimed 12th place.

Emmanuel, Fayetteville State, Mars Hill, Chowan, Johnson and Wales and Pfeiffer finished out the 18-team field.

Mount Olive's Brice Ballin (66-69-70=205) won individual medalist honors after leading wire-to-wire following a three-round, 5-under-par 205 and increased his lead over the rest of the field on Tuesday. Belmont Abbey's Jack Warren (70-69-69=208) and Erskine's Alberto Dominguez (71-70-67=67) shared the runner-up spot, with AU sophomore Calahan Keever posting the fourth-lowest 54-hole total in school history (68-69-73=210) and finishing alone in fourth place.

Junior Reece Coleman on Tuesday carded his second 1-over-par-71 in as many days and finished in a six-way tie for 16th, with classmate Caleb Henson claiming a share of 28th place following a 9-over 219. In his first tournament of the year, sophomore Daniel Coker finished in a tie for 48th, while freshman Simon Wright claimed a share of 58th place.

The Trojans are scheduled to wrap up their fall schedule next week at the Miami Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Southern Golf at Trump National Doral.
