Moore Named Associate Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Director of Golf, Danny Neal, announced on Thursday that Assistant Men's and Women's Golf Coach, Denton Moore, has been named Associate Head Golf Coach for the Trojans.

"I am excited for Denton to receive this title change," said Neal. "It is well deserved and more accurately reflects his duties and responsibilities in regards to both the men's and women's golf programs. Denton's professional development and efforts over the past several years have been a big part of our teams' successes and rise in national prominence. I look forward to continuing the development of our golf programs with Denton as Associate Head Coach."

The native of Anderson, S.C., was a standout player for the Trojans from 2003-2008 and is entering his eighth season as a full-time coach after joining the staff for the 2014 season.

"I am just so excited to be here at AU," said Moore. "We've been able to make so much progress. It's been fantastic to see the women going from No. 158 to seventh. It's been equally as exciting on the men's side to go from No. 150 to 34th in that same time frame."

As an integral part of the coaching staff, Moore has helped lift Trojan golf into one of the upper-echelon programs in the southeast. This past season saw the women's team make its second straight appearance in the NCAA South Regional, with Emma Charles becoming the second player in two seasons – and just the second individual in school history – to earn a berth in the NCAA National Championships.

Two years ago, AU notched a record-setting five women's tournament victories and posted a SAC Tournament-record 298 in early April, 2019. The Trojans closed out one of their most successful campaigns in program history in 2019 after earning an automatic bid to the NCAA South Region Championship by claiming their first-ever South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Moore has helped guide the women's squad to eight tourney titles, including the 2019 SAC Championship and has mentored an All-America honoree, more than a dozen all-conference selections, a trio of SAC Freshmen of the Year, a pair of SAC Scholar-Athletes and two Academic All-Americans.

The Trojans have become accustomed to residing in the national polls, with both teams earning spots in the Golfstat Top-25 this past season for the first time in school history.

Moore serves as the Trojans' recruiting coordinator and handles practices and tournament responsibilities, along with managing the men's and women's golf social media sites - including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

"I'm really thankful for Danny (Neal) going to bat for me, and bringing me on staff. I feel like we are a great combination. I'm also very thankful for Bert Epting and President Whitaker taking a shot on a young, unproven guy to come in and help get Anderson where it needs to be. But most of all, I want to thank my wife, Lauren. She is our family rock. Her support enables me to go recruit, she take care of business at home, encourages me to be a great dad and husband, and all while loving the kids we have on campus. She has a thankless job, and she is fantastic at it. Anderson University is a special place, and has a very special place in my heart, being my alma mater. I love our kids and our family here, and have very high hopes of bringing a national title here very soon."

He earned his bachelors' degree in psychology from Anderson University in 2007 and he his wife, Lauren, reside in Anderson, along with their daughter Monroe.
