Men’s Golf Claims Seventh Place at Spring Bulldog Clash

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Paced by junior Reece Coleman's three-round, 3-over par 213, including a final-round 66, the Anderson men's golf team moved up one spot and finished seventh at Barton's Spring Bulldog Clash, which was hosted by the Bulldogs at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament featured a par 70, 6,526 yard layout.

"I was very happy with today's performance from the guys," said Anderson Associate Head Coach Denton Moore. "They finished off round two well, then put a solid finishing round together. Today's round has to become what we expect, and we have to continue to be more consistent with these types of rounds. We shot the low round of the day and really put some solid work in. Reece (Coleman) was very special today. After an opening round 78 he really did a fantastic job controlling his emotions and bouncing back with 69-66 to finish the tournament. Just a really special round today. Calahan Keever was rock solid in the third round as well with 68. When those two do their thing, we are very good. We got a really solid 72 out of Parker MacDonald today as well. I really like the way Parker is starting to put things together."

With little movement over the final round, Rogers State led wire-to-wire and claimed the team title by five strokes over runner-up Lenoir-Rhyne. Shorter was three strokes further back in third place, with Barton taking home fourth place. Mount Olive and Cameron finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with the Trojans in the seventh slot after matching the low round of the day. Davenport claimed the eighth spot, while Barton (B) and Averett finished in a tie for ninth place.

Westminster, Wingate, Catawba, Chowan, UVA Wise and Bridgewater rounded out the 16-team field.

Rogers State's Palmowski (203) and Barton's Bryson Boyette (203) finished the tourney deadlocked at the top of the individual leaderboard, one stroke in front of Lenoir-Rhyne's Matthew Raybould and four shots ahead of Mount Olive's Brice Ballin.

Coleman's final round 66 matched the third-lowest round in school history and propelled the junior into seventh place. Sophomore Calahan Keever trimmed eight shots off his first and second-round scores and finished in a tie for 22nd place. Freshman Simon Wright claimed a share of 39th place, with juniors Anthony Sutton and Parker MacDonald finishing in a share of 43rd and 45th, respectively. Sophomore Daniel Coker finished in 50th place.

"Again, very pleased with today," added Moore. "Just disappointed in the week though. We can't shoot 302 one day, and then 280 the next. We will continue to look for more consistency. We will need it big time next week at the Bearcat Classic. That will be one of the best fields we see this year, and we have to be locked in and focused all three rounds."

The Trojans are scheduled to get back in action at next week's Lander Bearcat Classic, which will be hosted at the Stoney Point Golf Club in Greenwood.
