Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Miami Intercollegiate

MIAMI – Paced by sophomore Calahan Keever's three-round, 1-over-par 211, the Anderson University men's golf team wrapped up its fall slate with a fifth place finish, Tuesday at the Miami Intercollegiate.

The two-day, 54-hole event was hosted by Southern Golf and Nova Southeastern at Trump National Doral on a par-70, 6260- yard layout.

"Today was extremely disappointing," said Anderson Associate Head Coach Denton Moore. "It's the third tournament in a row we have been there in solid shape after 36 holes. It's the third tournament we have collapsed in the final round. We are going to use this off-season to really work on the mental game, and the course management side of this game. We have to be significantly better in both areas."

No. 21 Nova Southeastern overcame a six-shot deficit to claim the team title by seven strokes over Palm Beach Atlantic, with 23rd-ranked Lynn and No. 46 Tampa sharing third place. Anderson remained in fifth place, with Nova Southeastern (B) in sixth and Wilmington (DE) finishing in seventh place.

Nova Southeastern's Javier Calles, who began the final round tied for second alongside Keever, claimed individual medalist honors by two strokes over teammate Johnny Cachon. Tampa's Aadam Syed, who led following Monday's second round, finished third – four strokes off the pace.

Keever fired a third-round 3-over 73 and finished in a tie for seventh, with freshman Simon Wright also notching a final-round 73 and sharing 17th place. Junior Reece Coleman moved up five spots into a tie for 31st place after carding five birdies on the day, including three on his first nine, while firing a 1-under 69.

Sophomore Daniel Coker finished in 34th place after carding a final-round 11-over 81, with junior Caleb Henson finishing 39th.

"Calahan (Keever) was solid all week," added Moore. "He had a good finish, and outside of a few untimely 3 putts, he was very good. Simon (Wright) was steady all week as well. I'm very proud of the way those two played. It was good to see Reece (Coleman) bounce back today with -1. We have to be better in a lot of areas. This break comes at a good time for us. We can regroup, work on a lot of areas, and come back ready in the spring.'

The Trojans are scheduled to open their spring slate at the Stitch Invite at Haig Point, Feb. 7-8, in Hilton Head.
