Men’s Golf in Eighth Place after Day One of Spring Bulldog Clash

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – With second-round play suspended, the Anderson University men's golf team is in eighth place following opening-round and partial second-round action at Barton's Spring Bulldog Clash, which is being hosted at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being hosted on a par 70, 6,526 yard layout.

"Today was a bad day," said Anderson Associate Head Coach Denton Moore. "The conditions weren't easy, but they were not nearly as hard as we made them. Really disappointed in some decision making and execution. We are better than what we did today. I was excited to see Simon (Wright) leading us today with a solid 72 in the opening round. He was the lone bright spot in the opening round. We did not finish the second, but Reece (Coleman) is even par and looking much better. Parker (MacDonald) is +3 and holding steady with just a couple holes to go. We just need to get that round in the house, and then see if we can regroup and finish strong."

Heading into Tuesday's action, Rogers State is atop the team leaderboard, with Lenoir-Rhyne in the second spot. Mount Olive is third, with Shorter in fourth place. The host Bulldogs are in fifth place, while Cameron holds the sixth slot. Averett is seventh, with Anderson in eighth place. Barton (B), Davenport, Westminster College, Wingate, Catawba, Chowan, Bridgewater and UVA Wise finished out the 16-team field.

Rogers State's Palmowski and Barton's Bryson Boyette each finished both rounds, with Palmowski holding a three-shot lead following a two-round 134.

Freshman Simon Wright fired his best round of the year – an even-par 72 in Monday's first round, while junior Anthony Sutton is currently in a tie for 20th place. Junior Reece Coleman will open Tuesday's play in a tie for 28th, with junior Parker MacDonald currently holding a share of 34th place. Sophomore Calahan Keever is tied for 40th place and sophomore Daniel Coker is tied for 51st.

The rest of the second round is scheduled to get underway Tuesday morning.
