Men’s Golf in 18th Place after First Round of Tennessee River Rumble

LOUDON, Tenn. – With play suspended just a little more than halfway through the second round, the Anderson University men's golf team is in 18th place following Monday's opening round of the Tennessee River Rumble.

Lincoln Memorial is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament on a par-72, 6,986-yard Wind River Golf Club layout and features seven top-25 teams in the 19-team field.

"I was very disappointed with the first round," said Anderson Director of Golf Danny Neal. "A couple of our guys really struggled and it led to a high score for us as a team. We played a bit better in the second round, but didn't get to finish because of darkness. Hopefully, we can continue playing well tomorrow and post a couple of good round totals."

Seventh-ranked North Georgia and Belmont Abbey led the 19-team field following Monday's first round, with the fourth-ranked and host Railsplitters one shot off the pace in third. No. 23 Queens was fourth, while USC Aiken and Lee were fifth and sixth, respectively. Walters State and King were deadlocked in seventh place, with No. 37 Coker and No. 5 Carson-Newman sharing ninth place.

No. 27 Erskine and Lincoln Memorial (B) were tied for 11th place following the first round, with No. 44 Tusculum, No. 42 Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, North Greenville, 26th-ranked Newberry, Anderson and Young Harris finishing out the first-round standings.

North Georgia's Stephen Kinsel fired a first-round, 8-under-par 64 and leads the chase for individual medalist honors by two shots over Lee's Beck Burnette, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Matty Raybould and LMU's Harry Lord were deadlocked in a tie for third place after carding 5-under 67s.

AU sophomore Calahan Keever was tied for 28th place following suspension of play, with sophomore Daniel Coker and junior Reece Coleman sharing 56th place. Junior Parker MacDonald is tied for 97th heading into Tuesday's action, while junior Anthony Sutton was in 102nd place.

The second round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., with the final round to follow.
