Cal Brock Named South Atlantic Conference Postgraduate Scholarship Award Winner

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference office announced on Wednesday that Anderson University men's golf standout Cal Brock has been named as the male recipient of the prestigious Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI) Postgraduate Scholarship.

"We are very excited to award postgraduate scholarships to these outstanding student-athletes and allow them to further their education," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "We are honored to be able to reward the hard work and dedication that these individuals have put in on the court and the golf course, as well as in the classroom."

During his collegiate career, Brock posted seven career top-25 finishes and earned All-Tournament honors at the AU Invitational. The Greenwood native fired a career-best 67 on two occasions during the 2018-19 campaign.

"I am so excited for Cal to receive the SAC postgraduate scholarship," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "It's great to see his hard work both in the classroom and on the course result in his receiving this honor. It is well deserved."

Off the links Brock served as Vice-President of the AU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and as a member of the Anderson University Science Association Executive Leadership Committee this past year. He was also a Fellow with the Anderson University Center for Cancer Research.

Brock also volunteered at AnMed Health's Neuro ICU, the Anderson Cancer Association, the Anderson Free Clinic, Make-A-Wish and taught and mentored kids at week-long summer camps.

"I am extremely grateful to receive the South Atlantic Conference Postgraduate Scholarship," said Brock. "As a future physician, I plan to continue to represent the South Atlantic Conference and Anderson University with honesty, integrity, and altruism. I would like to thank everyone in our athletic administration for their passion to mold our athletes into responsible and professional people to serve our Lord in their future endeavors."

Madelyn Lawrence of the University of Virginia's College at Wise was named the female recipient of the award.

The BMI postgraduate scholarships are awarded to SAC student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and have completed their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Both Brock and Lawrence will receive a one-time, non-renewable scholarship of $2,000 toward the graduate school of their choice.

After graduating in May with a 4.0 GPA in biochemistry, Brock will be attending the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine this fall.
