Women's Track and Field Finishes With Seven Qualifying Times in Day One

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team completed day one of the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday (May 5) at the AU Track Complex with seven qualifying times.

Whitney Hanson led the way for the Trojans by recording a podium finish in the 3000 SC at a pace of 11:08.98 to take third. Jodi Ann Martin's time of 11:39.95 was good for sixth place, while Madison Crumley recorded a top-10 finish with a mark of 12:53.24. The 4x100 relay team consisting of Lacey Boozer, Autumn Bladen, Brianna Quartararo, and Joeli Hayden finished seventh place in a time of 49.51.

Emma Deadwyler (57.21) and Lacey Boozer (57.73) each qualified in the 400 dash prelims. Olivia Rish (2:18.35) and Kamryn Osterbind (2:18.42) both finished in qualifying times in the 800m. Aubrey Stoddard just missed a qualifying time at a pace of 2:19.58. For the 1500 prelims, Olivia Rish (4:46.17) and Whitney Hanson (4:49.32) each qualified. In the pole vault, Madison Crumley (2.50m) and Autumn Bladen (2.35m) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. In the 10,000m, Faith Nelson's mark of 38:17.96 was good for ninth place. Emily Golden (38:25.71) and Elise Matthews (38:58.93) came in 11th and 12th.

After day one of the heptathlon, Katie Landry finished third with 2714 points and Lauren Pernell was fourth at 2639. Landry won the shot put at a distance of 12.64m and finished second in the 200 dash at 26.78, while Pernell finished fourth (27.06). Pernell took third in the high jump at 1.51m. In the javelin throw, Landry finished on the podium at 37.49m for third place. Pernell also reached a qualifying time of 1:07.28 in the 400 hurdles prelims.

"We had a fantastic day one as we had several qualify for tomorrow's finals and had multiple athletes set personal bests," said coach Kevin Eagle. "This sets us up for an exciting day two!"
