Appleby, Hanson, and Matthews Win Day One Events of 2022 Trojan Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's track and field team completed the first day of the 2022 Trojan Opener on Friday (Mar. 18). Regan Appleby, Whitney Hanson, and Elise Matthews won events on day one for the Trojans, among 13 top-ten finishes. This marked the first track and field meet held on the campus of Anderson University.

"It was a monumental day for our program," said coach Kevin Eagle. "Even with a storm rolling in and causing a three-hour delay, I could not have asked for a better experience for our coaches and athletes!"

Regan Appleby won the shot put with a distance of 12.54m. Katie Landry took fifth in the long jump at 4.91m, and Lauren Pernell was close behind at 4.77m to take seventh place.

On the track, Whitney Hanson won the 1500m at a pace of 4:41.27. Olivia Rish (4:45.61), Aubrey Stoddard (4:48.90), and Kamryn Osterbind (4:53.15) finished second, third, and fourth respectively. Jodi Ann Martin finished sixth (4:55.78), Rebecca Ward ninth (5:03.94), and Madison Crumley (5:11.98) 15th.

Elise Matthews won the 5000m at an impressive pace of 17:59.79. Faith Nelson finished second at 18:16.23. Emily Golden (18:37.40) and Hagan Wilson (18:44.65) took sixth and seventh place, respectively.
