Softball Team Eliminated From CVAC Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. -- St. Andrews managed to survive a seventh-inning rally to beat Anderson College 5-3 and eliminate the Lady Trojans from the 2004 CVAC Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon. In AC's first game of the day, Stephanie Griffis had a two-run single in the second inning and pitcher Ashley Rogers limited Erskine to one run as AC eliminated the Flying Fleet, 2-1. St. Andrews jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Anderson scored a single run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and had the bases loaded when the game ended. Senior pitcher Tina Gonsalves, the CVAC Player of the Year, threw a complete game striking out seven batters, and went 1-3 with a two-run home run. Anderson was led by Rachelle Lawrence who went 3-4 with three singles. Anderson's Kari Huggins was named to the CVAC All-Tournament team.
