Tusculum Hits Three Homers To Beat Softball Team

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Tusculum hit three home runs and finally managed to take the lead for good in the fifth inning to beat Anderson College 6-4 in the Francis Marion Tournament Friday afternoon. Cindy Crosby scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give Anderson a 1-0 lead. In the second, Danielle Huskens hit a solo home run for Tusculum to tie the game at 1. In the third, Stephanie Griffis walked, advanced on an error, and scored on a single by Rachelle Lawrence to put Anderson in front, 2-1. A two-run homer by Ali White in the fourth put Tusculum in front, 3-2. Singles by Griffis, Ana Rogers, and Crosby led to two runs for Anderson in the fifth and a 4-3 lead. But Tusculum took the lead for good in the fifth on a two-run homer by Laura Nenchaca. The Lady Trojans play North Carolina Central and North Carolina Pembroke on Saturday and Augusta State and Armstrong Atlantic on Sunday.
