Softball Team Opens CVAC Schedule With Sweep Of BA

BELMONT, N.C. -- Anderson College (8-16 overall, 2-0 CVAC) got timely hits and stranded 15 Belmont Abbey (8-9, 0-2) runners as the Lady Trojans swept a doubleheader, 2-1 and 3-0, from the Crusaders Wednesday afternoon. In first game, Anderson scored first, getting a single run in the second inning as Lauren Cooley drove in Carolyn Smith with two outs. Belmont Abbey tied the score in the fifth on a solo home run by Stephanie Spink, but Anderson scored an unearned run in the sixth, and Ashley Rogers retired nine of the last ten batters she faced to earn the victory. In the second game, Kelly McCrodden and Lauren Powell combined to shutout the Crusaders and strand 11 runners. The Lady Trojans scored two unearned runs in the second inning on a single by McCrodden, and Cindy Crosby singled and scored a lone run in the third inning to account for the runs.
