BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Anderson College received solid pitching performances from Ashley Rogers and Kelly McCrodden and two big hits from Shelly Sawyer to sweep a CVAC doubleheader from Lees-McRae Tuesday afternoon. In the first game, Rogers limited the Bobcats to two hits and Anderson scored all of its runs in the first inning for a 4-1 victory. Rogers, a freshman from Liberty, struck out five to earn her 11th victory of the season. In the first inning, Rachelle Lawrence had an RBI double, Sawyer had a two-run double, and Carolyn Smith provided a run-scoring single. In the second game, senior Kelly McCrodden pitched a three-hit shutout and Sawyer hit a two-run homer in the first to lead Anderson to a 5-0 victory. Anderson struck for three runs in the first on an RBI single by Lawrence and Sawyer's two-run shot. Anderson's final run came in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Melissa Waters. Both Kari Huggins and Cindy Crosby were 2-for-4 in the second game. The sweep improves Anderson to 20-29 overall and 11-5 in the CVAC. The 11 victories is most league victories ever recorded by an Anderson softball team and guarantees the Lady Trojans, who are tied for second place in the league standings with Belmont Abbey, their second consecutive winning season in the CVAC.
