Softball Team Splits With Newberry

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kelly McCrodden scattered 10 hits and Cindy Crosby had three hits, scored two runs, and drove in two runs to lead Anderson College to a 7-3 victory over Newberry in the second game and a split of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Newberry's Kayce McLeod pitched a three-hitter and the Indians rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 3-1 victory. The second game was tied at 2 through four innings, but Anderson got two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Crosby and an run-scoring triple by Rachel Lawrence. The Lady Trojans used two errors and RBI singles by McCrodden and Crosby to take a 7-2 lead in the sixth. In the first game, Anderson's Ashley Rogers held Newberry scoreless through six innings, but in the seventh, the Indians erupted for three runs. With one out, pinch-hitter Christina Kirby and Courtney Lindler both singled and pinch-hitter Rebecca Backman tripled to give Newberry a 2-1 lead. Backman scored the third run on a single by pinch-hitter Jenny Raines. McLeod struck out five and walked just one. Anderson is now 11-20, while Newberry stands at 14-9. Anderson plays at Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
