Lander Sweeps Softball Team

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Lander closed out the regular-season portion of its schedule Tuesday night by sweeping Anderson College, 5-0 and 8-4, in a non-conference doubleheader. In the first game, Sheena Mason (5-9) earned the victory, striking out eight, walking three and allowing just three hits in the complete-game shutout. Anderson's Ashley Rogers took the loss, striking out three, walking one and allowing five earned runs on 11 hits in six innings pitched. Melissa Ryals (2-for-3) and Keri Davis (2-for-2, one RBI) both doubled for Lander, while Summer Kimmel went 2-for-3, and Sydney Sneed (pictured) went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Lander outhit the Lady Trojans, 11-3. In the second game, Alcira Adriatico (1-0) earned her first win of the season, striking out three and allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits in the complete seven innings. AC's Kelly McCrodden was the loser, striking out two, walking one and allowing six earned runs on 13 hits in six innings pitched. Lander's Davis went 3-for-4 with one triple, while Kimmel (2-for-4, two RBI), Adriatico (1-for-2, one RBI), Ryals (3-for-4, two RBI) and Jennifer Dickert (2-for-3) all doubled. AC's Carolyn Smith went 1-for-3 with one double, while Rachelle Lawrence went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Lander took a 4-2 lead in the third inning, only to have AC tie it at 4-4 in the top of the fourth. Lander exploded for four fourth-inning runs to put the game out of reach. The sweep drops Anderson to 23-32 overall. Season Statistics
