Softball Team Splits With USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. -- Anderson College routed USC Aiken 12-2 in the first game, but USCA's JoAnn Jones blanked AC in the second game to give the Pacers a split Wednesday afternoon. In the first game, Anderson banged out 12 hits and scored 12 runs to beat the Pacers in five innings. Rachelle Lawrence led the AC attack with three hits in four trips. AC scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning to take control. Shelly Sawyer had a three-run triple to highlight the first inning. In the second inning, Carolyn Smith had a three-run double, and Lauren Cooley had a two-run single. Ashley Rogers allowed just two hits to pick up the victory in the first game. Melissa Waters scored four runs for AC in the first game. In the second game, Jones outdueled AC's Lauren Powell to lead the Pacers to a 1-0 victory. USCA scored the only run of the game in the second inning on a double by Jayne Durrand and a single by Kelly Ford. AC is now 2-4, while USCA is 5-4.
