Softball Team Splits With Southern Wesleyan

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Freshman Ashley Rogers pitched her second consecutive shutout to lead Anderson College to a 4-0 victory in the first game, but Southern Wesleyan bounced back for a 6-3 victory in the second game as the two schools split a softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. Rogers, a native of Liberty, S.C., struck out six and allowed just four hits to improve her record to 3-1. Anderson got a single run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Carolyn Smith and three runs in the third on an RBI single by Rachelle Lawrence, a sacrifice fly by Kari Huggins, and an RBI double by Shelly Sawyer. In the second game, Southern Wesleyan's Gina Gossett drove in four runs in the first two innings to help the Warriors build a 6-1 lead. Smith led AC's offense in the second game with two hits.
