USCS Takes Two From Softball Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Ashleigh Beck had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI and the Lady Rifles hit three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Anderson College Friday afternoon at the USCS Softball Stadium. USCS won game one 9-1 and game two 5-1. USCS improves to 6-0 on the season, while Anderson falls to 2-6. In game one, Jennifer Whited (3-0) tossed a complete game, striking out six batters en route to the victory. She got lots of offensive help from her teammates. USCS scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. Erin Driggers started the scoring when she scored from third on a wild pitch. Beck then drove in two runs on a double to left center. Kacey Ayers scored on a single from Kristin Dodson. The Lady Rifles added four more runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 8-1. Karly Justice had an RBI single and Jackie Sepulveda hit a three-run homer to end the scoring in the inning. The Lady Rifles ended the game in the fifth inning when Dodson hit a leadoff home run to left to make the score 9-1. In the second game, Jessica Jolly (2-0) went the distance to pick up the win. The freshman struck out six and scattered five hits along the way. USCS got a run in each of the first, second, and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Driggers scored the run in the first inning when Anderson catcher Carolyn Smith threw the ball into center field trying to throw out Justice as she stole second. USCS made it 2-0 in the second inning when Elida Gil de Montes hit a leadoff home run. The Lady Rifles went up 3-0 when Beck singled to drive in Terra Goswick in the fourth inning. After Anderson scored a run in the top of the fifth inning on a Shelly Sawyer home run, USCS added two runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the win. Dodson's sacrifice fly scored Jessie Burroughs, while Beck doubled again to drive in Ayers. From there, Jolly shutdown the Lady Trojans for the win.
