Men’s Golf Tied for Ninth Place after Day One of South Atlantic Conference Championship

TAZEWELL, Tenn. – Paced by senior Jake Miller's two-round, 2-over-par 146, the Anderson University men's golf team is tied for ninth place following Monday's first two rounds of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Lincoln Memorial is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament at the Woodlake Country Club in Tazewell, Tenn., over a par-72, 6,746 yard course.

"We were very disappointed with our performance today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "The men had stretches of good holes but we had several big numbers which took away any positive momentum. Jake (Miller) played well by overcoming a 9 and still shooting 72-74. And Daniel (Coker's) 73 in the second round was big. But we have a lot of catching up to do tomorrow. Hopefully, we will play better and be able to move up a couple spots."

Host and nationally second-ranked Lincoln Memorial leads No. 46 Queens by four shots entering Tuesday's final round, while 17th-ranked Limestone is four strokes further back in third place. No. 21 Carson-Newman holds the fourth spot, with No. 31 Newberry in fifth place after two rounds. No. 22 Wingate is in sixth place, with Lenoir-Rhyne and Coker in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Anderson, ranked 32nd nationally, is tied with Catawba in ninth place, while Tusculum, UVA Wise and Mars Hill rounded out the 13-team field.

Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury (64-67=131) leads teammate Luke Harries (67-70=137) by six strokes in the battle for individual honors. Carson-Newman's Jake Mynatt, Queens' Clayson Good and Limestone's Gage Carnes all share third place – nine shots off the pace.

Miller is tied for 19th place, while sophomore Reece Coleman is in a three-way tie for 35th place after notching a 6-over-par 150 on the day. Freshman Calahan Keever shares 38th place after posting a 7-over-par 151. Freshman Daniel Coker is in 51st place following a two-round 157, with sophomore Anthony Sutton in 56th place following a 163.

Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. for Tuesday's final 18 holes.
