Men’s Golf in Third Place after Day One of Montevallo’s Full Moon BBQ Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – Seeking its second victory in as many outings, the Anderson University men's golf team is in third place following opening-round action at the Montevallo's Full Moon BBQ Invitational, which is being hosted in Calera, Ala., at the 6,745 yard, par-71 Timberline Golf Club.

The host Falcons lead the two-day event by four strokes over second-place Trevecca Nazarene, with AU four shots further back in third place. Young Harris and Montevallo (B) are fourth and fifth, respectively, while West Georgia is sixth entering Monday's second round. Union and Christian Brothers are deadlocked in seventh place.

"The team got off to a slow start but hung in," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "Not our best play, but we are in position to catch a couple of teams if we play a bit steadier tomorrow. Reece and Daniel both played well shooting 71 and 72 respectively."

Montevallo's Paul Murphy (67) holds a three-shot lead over Trevecca Nazarene's Ryan Rozic (70), West Georgia's Rece Moore (70) and teammate Brock McNeely (70) in the battle for individual medalist honors. AU's Reece Coleman fired a season-best, even-par 71 and sits among five golfers tied for fifth, just four shots off the pace.

AU freshman Daniel Coker carded a 1-over 72 and shares 10th place, while Anthony Sutton shares 13th place following an opening round 73. Senior Jake Miller is tied for 19th after notching a 74 and freshman Calahan Keever is tied for 27th following a 76 on Sunday.

Monday's final round is slated to get underway at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
