Men’s Golf to Open Fall Schedule in Peach Belt State

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's golf team is slated to open its fall schedule by competing at the Matt Dyas Invitational, which will be hosted by West Georgia at the Mirror Lake Golf Club in Villa Rica, Ga., Monday and Tuesday.

Joining the Trojans in the seven-team field will be Delta State, Emmanuel, Mississippi College, Montevallo, Newberry and the host Wolves. The two-day, 54-hole event is scheduled for 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

It will mark the Trojans' first venture to the West Georgia event, with the Trojans coming off a coronavirus-shortened spring schedule that was halted after just two tournaments. The team's 2019-20 campaign came to a close after the AU posted four top-5 finishes in six tournaments, including runner-up showings at both the AU Invitational and the Donald Ross Intercollegiate a year ago.

Sophomore Reece Coleman book-ended last season by finishing in a tie for first atop the individual leaderboard at the AU Invitational and at the Southern Tide Classic in early March. Through six tournaments, Coleman paced the Trojans with a 71.67 unadjusted stroke average and finished in the top-11 on five occasions, including a runner-up performance at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate in mid-October. A native of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Coleman carded a team-low round of 66 in the second round of the Donald Ross Intercollegiate a year ago.

One of two seniors who decided to return for another year, Jake Miller, was close on Coleman's heels with a 72.60 unadjusted stroke average through 15 rounds last season. The Anderson, S.C., native owned a pair of fifth-place finishes, while finishing sixth at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate and eighth at Lincoln Memorial's Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in February. Anthony Sutton posted a 74.50 unadjusted stroke average and claimed a season-best seventh-place finish at the 2019 AU Invitational.

Fellow senior Drake McAlister also returned for another season after recording a pair of top-20 finishes during 2019-20, including a share of 15th place at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. The Easley, S.C., native fired a career-best 72 in the opening round at Myrtle Beach and nearly equaled it with a 73 in the second round of the King University Invitational.

True senior Cal Brock posted a 76.62 unadjusted stroke average through 13 rounds during the 2019-20 campaign, while notching a low-round 69 in the first round of the North Georgia Fall Invitational. The Greenwood, S.C., native also finished in a tie for 10th at the Southern Tide Classic and claimed a share of 31st at the AU Invitational.

Sophomore Caleb Henson recorded a low-round 73 both in the first round of the AU invitational and in the second round of the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, while finishing 19th at the AU Invitational and took home a share of 34th at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate. Senior Colt Martin carded a low-round 77 in the second round of Southern Tide Classic en route to capturing the South Atlantic Conference's Elite 20 Award.
