Men’s Golf Leads Matt Dyas Invitational; Sutton Leads Teammate Keever by One Stroke

VILLA RICA, Ga. – Paced by sophomore Anthony Sutton's tournament-leading, two-round 5-under-par 139, the Anderson University men's golf team leads the Matt Dyas Invitational following Monday's opening-day action at the 6,862 yard, par-72 Mirror Lake Golf Club.

The two-day, 54-hole event is being hosted by West Georgia.

"I am really proud of how our team played today," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "They have worked hard over the past two months not even knowing if they were going to get the opportunity to play this fall. And to come out and shoot 5-under-par for two rounds and lead this tournament, is a testament not only to their work ethic, but also to their eagerness to compete. All that said, it's just day one. We still have 18 holes to play tomorrow. We hope to continue strong play and finish strong."

Following the first 18 holes, AU held a 10-shot lead over the rest of the field and built its cushion to 16 shots by the end of the day. Delta State held the second spot, with the host Wolves and fellow South Atlantic Conference-member Newberry deadlocked in third place, nine strokes further back. Mississippi College was fifth, while Montevallo held the sixth slot heading into Tuesday's final round. Emmanuel rounded out the seven-team field.

Sutton, who fired an opening round 2-under-par 70 and followed up by equaling his career-low with a 69, is bidding for his first collegiate victory while holding a one-shot edge over teammate Calahan Keever (72-68=140). Mississippi College's Force Choi is just one shot further back, with West Georgia's Blake Kollin lurking in fourth place, six strokes off the pace set by Sutton.

AU sophomore Reece Coleman (72-74=146) is in a five-way tie for fifth and freshman Daniel Coker (73-77=150) is tied for 15th. Senior Jake Miller sits in a four-way tie for 19th after carding a two-round 151.
