Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Bearcat Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Paced by freshman Calahan Keever's three-round, even-par 216, the Anderson University men's golf team finished eighth, Tuesday at the Bearcat Classic.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament was hosted by Lander at the par-72 6,800 yard, Stoney Point Golf Club layout.

"Our third round started a little better than the first two, but inconsistency still plagued us throughout the day," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "The men showed signs of great potential mixed with some poorly executed shots. It all added up to a round of 290 and an eighthth place finish in a field of 22 teams. Individually, Calahan (Keever) and Jake (Miller) stood out. Reece also had a subpar round of 69 as he finished his second round this morning. We will get back to practicing and preparing for our next event at LMU in Tennessee."

Georgia College overcame a three-stroke deficit and jumped from fifth place following Monday's first round to first place – claiming the team title by five shots over runner-up Lincoln Memorial. Newberry and Young Harris shared third place, with Lander and Barton finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Carson-Newman claimed seventh place, one shot in front of Anderson in eighth place. North Greenville vaulted seven spots and finished ninth, while Southern Wesleyan and West Georgia were deadlocked in 10th place.

Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive, Lenoir-Rhyne, Erskine, Flagler, Coker, Lander (B), Catawba, King, Emmanuel and Lander (C) finished out the 22-team field.

Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury (71-67-70=208) overcame a four-shot deficit following Monday's first round and moved up from a share of 12th place to finish tied for first and won the tourney in a playoff over Young Harris' Peter Chung (68-70-70=208).

Keever fired his second-lowest round of the year of the year (69) on Tuesday and moved from a tie for 34th and finished with a share of 17th. Senior Jake Miller, who carded his best three-round score of the year, claimed a tie for 20th place on the strength of a season-best round of 70 on Tuesday. Sophomore Reece Coleman finished in a tie for 44th, with sophomore Anthony Sutton taking home a share of 66th place. Sophomore Caleb Hinson tied for 80th place and freshman Daniel Coker claimed a share of 90th place.

Following a three-week layoff, the Trojans will get back in action, March 29-30, at the LMU River Rumble.
