Men’s Golf Adds Simon Wright

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's golf team has signed prep standout Simon Wright for the 2021 campaign, as announced Friday morning.

Wright, a native of Lancaster, S.C., posted a 74.93 scoring average while playing for Coach Joe Adams' Lancaster High Bruins. He is ranked 30th in the Palmetto State and ranks 930th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard. Wright was runner-up at both the Henry Transou Memorial Junior Classic, where he lost in a playoff, and at the South Carolina Junior Golf Association Fall Challenge.

He brought home a share of 12th place at the Grant Bennett Florence Junior Invitational and tied for 24th place at the SCJGA Junior Championship.

Off the course, Wright owns a 4.76 GPA.

"Simon Wright is one of the finest young men I have ever coached," said Adams. "He is eager and anxious to learn. He takes academics and sports very serious, excelling in both. He builds a comradery with his teammates, which contributes to the overall team spirit. He never gives up on himself or his teammates. He would make a good lead-off man or a clean-up man."

"Simon is an exciting addition to what we feel like is going to be a very good team in 2021," said Anderson Head Coach Danny Neal. "He will be a big part of all the success we have here at AU for the next four years. He brings a very infectious personality to our team. Simon loves the game, and has a lot of fun playing it. He is very exciting to watch play the game. He has superior length on off the tee, paired with a fine touch around the greens. He has played against really strong competition in the Carolinas and has enjoyed strong success. Simon excels in the classroom and brings great leadership to AU on and off the golf course. He checks all of the boxes in what we are looking for in our program. We are very excited to welcome him to the AU golf family, and look forward to getting to work with him in August."
